Spirit Winter Percussion from Orleans, MA, heads to the Winter Guard International (WGI) Percussion World Championships competition in Dayton, Ohio. Their show, Timeless Hydro-flections, explores four aspects of humanity’s interaction with water: before birth, childhood discoveries, a mature, working relationship, and finally, the destruction water can cause, harkening to the necessity for respect of the power of water. The end of the show hints at the calm after the storm, reminding us that humanity is resilient, determined to overcome the hardships of life’s storms–a timely message in the wake of recent storms such as Riley and Skylar. #BostonStrong #HoustonStrong #VegasStrong

Set construction enhances their show:
• The performance background features nine “Five-sided” spinning triangles with 45 life sized impressionistic-style images reflecting the different sections of the show
• Members will perform on spinning performance platforms—innovative technology for the activity!

The musical ensemble, made up of 31 young musicians ages 10–22, will compete against 37 other ensembles from across the country in a popular musical activity known as the “Sport of the Arts”—a musical medium that blends the athletic strength and endurance of marching and dance, with music and theatrics. Members of Spirit travel as many as ten hours each weekend for rehearsals and have practiced for hundreds of hours (including weekends and school vacations) for the past seven months to achieve this high level of performance.

With a mission of “Excellence, Passion, Teamwork,” Spirit WP is a living model of the power of music and the arts to equip young people for a life of purpose, meaning, and service to others. The ensemble will compete for the Championship title through a process of three rounds of competitions—prelims, semi-finals, and finals.
