GIVING BACK

Spirit Winter Percussion provides members with an experienced and dedicated staff of instructors, life coaches, mentors and alumni dedicated to Giving Back and helping the impossible become possible. This network of supporters is a living example of the value of the contribution of each person and the importance of Giving Back. Through a variety of experiences, Spirit gives members the opportunity to Give Back to their community.

April 2020—Some members of Spirit are sewing these masks for health care professionals and our local Council on Aging. A great way to #giveback during this difficult time!

November 2017—For Christmas, members of Spirit WP held a bake sale at our local supermarket! All proceeds went to the Heifer International Foundation – a non-profit foundation that helps to end hunger and poverty by providing families and villages around the world with necessities that can help them sustain themselves and provide food for families. With the money we raised, we were able to give an Alpaca to a family in need, and send additional money for other smaller animals that are essential to families’ lives right now!

About Heifer Foundation: “We empower families to turn hunger and poverty into hope and prosperity – but our approach is more than just giving them a handout. Heifer links communities and helps bring sustainable agriculture and commerce to areas with a long history of poverty. Our animals provide partners with both food and reliable income, as agricultural products such as milk, eggs and honey can be traded or sold at market.

When many families gain this new sustainable income, it brings new opportunities for building schools, creating agricultural cooperatives, forming community savings and funding small businesses.”

August 2017—The Wounded Warrior Project® (WWP) provides free programs and services to address the needs of wounded warriors and fill gaps in government care. The demand for our programs and services has grown from serving a handful of injured veterans to now serving tens of thousands, and we continue to receive hundreds of new registrations from injured veterans, their families, and caregivers each month. Members of Spirit Winter Percussion held a car wash this summer, raising $900 that they donated towards this Project.
December 2016—Members of Spirit Winter Percussion served a dinner for the homeless after a memorial service for homeless persons who died over the past year in the town of Barnstable. It’s an important time to stop and remember those who are less fortunate!
September 2016—Members of Spirit WP honored the memory of the lives that were lost in the terror attacks on 9/11 15 years ago by joining thousands of Americans across the country with community service projects as a part of 911day. #NeverForget
June 2016—More than four years of armed conflict in Syria caused millions of people to leave their homes in search of a safe haven. Members of Spirit WP held a car wash in their hometown of Orleans, MA, raising $850 to benefit the GlobalGiving Syrian Refugee Relief Fund.
May 2016—Spirit particpated in the #22kill pushup challenge to recognize the sacrifices made by the men and women of the United States armed services to defend our freedom and preserve peace. The challenge was named after the very sombering statistic that on average, 22 men and women commit suicide each month due to the effects of PTSD. We challenge YOU to participate!
June 2015—Spirit took part in the Ice Bucket Challenge, a fundraising campaign that originated to raise support and awareness for the victims of ALS. In this fun video made on the sandy beaches of Cape Cod, you can see Spirit take on the challenge!
